Gaia Magazine Issue VIII

Sustainability Problem and Proposed Solution: 

Gaia Magazine aims to provide much-needed coverage of sustainability-related issues and initiatives on, or linked to, the UCSC campus, as well as the broader community. Issue VIII is specifically focusing on "the changing face of the environmental movement", featuring content that shows different sides to the stereotyped movement. We want to promote coverage and conversation about what an environmentalist truly is, and how it's not defined by race, class, or specific actions.

Project Description: 

We aim to publish and distribute 1200 copies of a 40 page full color magazine in Spring Quarter of 2016. Content will be student-produced and reflect our theme well. To do this, our staff must perform outreach duties to raise awareness of this submission opportunity, work on our own content, as well as raise funds to print our issue at Community Printers. We aim to have the issue completed by 4/8, submit to the printers by 4/11, and begin distribution to campus by 4/22.

Metrics for Success: 

In the past, we’ve used surveys that are posted online and in our magazine with a QR code in order to determine how much our issue has influenced readers. These surveys have asked the opinion of the overall magazine, but this year we would also ask about behavior that has changed for the reader as a result of reading Issue VIII of Gaia Magazine.
