The goal of this project is to educate students about sustainable recreation, and how their actions can prevent habitat degradation. I believe such a resource is necessary to help educate the campus student body about the land, habitat, and watershed (LHW) goals of the Campus Sustainability Plan, and will also help prevent degradation of campus natural areas by functioning as an outreach and education document for future stewardship staff to use.

This project is necessary due to the large impact that the student population has made on the wild areas on campus, as well as the surrounding habitats. In various areas, one can see the detrimental effects that a large human presence has left on the landscape (like areas stripped entirely from vegetation).Because the campus environment is in a constant process of restoration (as damage can take many years to repair), explaining why certain areas need protection and why they should not be used is of special importance.
