Although this event has already taken place, PICA hosts three sustainability events each quarter, so there are plenty more great opportunities! To stay updated, you can check out PICA's Facebook page, PICA's Website, or email the events coordinator to be put on PICA's email list, and watch for PICA flyers on campus.
UCSC students were welcomed to meet at PICA on November 11, 2012 to learn how to identify local, wild edible plants. Participants were given gloves, trowels, collecting bags, and a worksheet on the plants the group would be learning about. PICA's garden coordinator, Jarid Kroes, taught the group about many different kinds of greens, roots, fruits, nuts, and herbs during the walk around lower campus. The worksheet also included recipies for stining nettle and bay nuts, which the participants got to sample at the end of the hike.
