The Green Business Program is a free, voluntary program for businesses that care about sustainability. Our approach is to encourage environmental practices to help community businesses operate in an environmentally responsible manner. To be certified, a business must meet core and elective requirements. Another part of the process is to have a Green Business specialist pass audits and walkthroughs to assure the business meets our checklist. Businesses that receive a green certification guarantee their commitment to sustainable practices. Similarly, the Green Office has a calculator that incorporates questions that rely on a point system to estimate their green ranking to receive a certificate. My project is to create a checklist that integrates both Green Business and Green Office measures to streamline the certification process and create consistency between the programs. I am comparing both Green Office and Green Business checklists to set up a google sheet to match measures that are more or less similar. The process involves grouping measures that overlap from one checklist to another by category (e.g., water, waste, energy conservation, etc.). Then, group measures that are unique to each checklist in their own sections so they can be integrated. I must make a tab with Green Business and Green Office commonalities and figure out how many Green Business measures meet Green Office needs. This allows me to make a tab with Green Business and Green Office differences. After clearly assessing commonalities and differences I will refine the checklist into an organized tab. I will decipher which Green Business measures can be implemented into the Green Office Calculator by discussing with Shauna and Shawn and contacting people on campus that can provide further expertise to recognize measures that are already campus wide policies. My objective is to have a finalized dual checklist to present to Shawn, Shauna and the rest of the Green Office team to use in the future.
