TAPS Bike Library Expansion and Upkeep

Sustainability Problem and Proposed Solution: 

The TAPS Bike Library aims to reduce the issue of traffic congestion on the UCSC campus and in the city of Santa Cruz by lending students and staff bicycles to use for a quarter without charge. By giving more individuals an opportunity to use a bicycle, we are encouraging a reduction of carbon footprints and hopefully shaping their future transportation habits in a direction away from individualized auto-mobility.

Project Description: 

Our project will purchase 12 new bicycles and the necessary equipment to maintain them for their operable lifespans, including locks, lights, and replacement drivetrain components. All these items will be purchased by July 1, 2019, and assembled and ready for use by August 1, 2019. All the new equipment will be ready for implementation at the beginning of Fall 2019.

Metrics for Success: 

The success of our project will be measured by the number of community members we are able to expose to cycling as an alternative form of transportation, with the goal of loaning out the entirety of our fleet every quarter to applicants.

Bike Library staff will deliver a 6-Month Progress Report to the Carbon Fund committee in December 2019, detailing our actual expenses.
