Community Fridge

Sustainability Problem and Proposed Solution: 

The sustainability problem addressed by a community fridge at UC involves food waste and food insecurity. Many students may struggle to afford nutritious meals, while surplus food from dining halls or events often goes to waste. Our project aims to bridge this gap by establishing a community fridge on campus where students can donate excess food and others can access free, healthy options, thereby reducing food waste and providing essential resources to those in need.

Project Description: 

A community fridge:This innovative concept involves establishing a dedicated space on campus where individuals can contribute surplus food items and where others in need can freely take what they require. A hub of generosity and inclusivity, where the barriers of economic disparity are dismantled, and every student has access to nourishment regardless of their financial circumstances. By fostering a culture of sharing and caring, we can alleviate the burden faced by those who are struggling.

Metrics for Success: 

The number of food exchanges in a day.

Next Steps: 
1. Gather funding for a fridge. 2. Decide which college to set up fridge at. 3. Promote the program. 4. Find someone to appoint to regularly check the fridge for expired items.
