The IDEASS program at UCSC is aiming to develop digital narratives which will feature the progress and challenges that student teams experience as they move forward to apply their sustainable projects. High School students at the Natural Bridges Green Carrer Center (NBGCC) will be involved in gathering digital materials for these narratives. Undergraduates at UCSC working on this project will be responsible for both supervising production and developing a thorough six month curriculum to engage and teach youth at NBGCC. This curriculum will include introducing STEM content of the projects they are documenting, they will gain investigative reporting skills, and be involved in collecting and producing digital media. The final product of these films will be presented in Summer 2014 during community screening events which will take place at the Montery Bay Sanctuary Exploration Center. These digital narratives are planned to serve multiple purposes, such as providing the oppurtunity for at-risk youth to utilize cutting edge technology, learn about sustainability sciences, and enage with engineering design projects that they may not have had the opportunity to access or have interest in. Another purpose of this project is to educate extensive public audiences about the innovative projects being implemented in their community. Finally, these projects will hopefully inspire new stakeholders to get involved, promote the project that is currently being implemented, and suggest new projects to contribute to the IDEASS program.
