Fleet Incentives for All-Electric Sedans

Sustainability Problem and Proposed Solution: 

UCSC Fleet Services has limited funds to spend on university vehicles. All University departments are required to purchase vehicles through Fleet Services and they have limited funds as well. Fleet is committed to sustainability and has solely been purchasing hybrid sedans like Honda Insights and Nissan Altimas over the past two years. Unfortunately, the cost of buying the next tier of sustainable vehicles (all electric) is quite often outside of Fleet’s and campus departments’ budgets.

Project Description: 

Now that we have acquired funding, we will use this incentive money to purchase electric vehicles as departments need them and as good deals become available.

Metrics for Success: 

Five EVs purchased.

This will save over 20,000 gallons of gasoline and 109.85 tons of CO2e - The EVs emit only 2/5ths the emissions of the hybrids!

When faculty, staff, and students rent or utilize these vehicles they will recognize UCSC’s commitment to a culture of sustainability. They will also experience the cars, their comfort and capabilities, first hand. Providing an electric car “test ride” for staff and students.
