Sustainability Problem and Proposed Solution: 

Campuses need to have a way to track their progress and identify areas for improvement, as well as an understanding of best practices in campus sustainability. The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) allows the University to assess it's performance annually and be rated among US Colleges and Universities.

Sustainability Tracking and Rating System (STARS) is a project that looks into all aspects of campus operations and rates UCSC according to a point scale of sustainability.

In 2015 UCSC was given a SILVER level rating.
