The project connects educational elements and student involvement very closely. This project is developed by student staff at the Stevenson Garden. Once the project is completed, the garden will be used as an educational hotspot for sustainable gardening knowledge. Students will be able to consult trained student staff as well as view informational boards that explain the different facets in the garden. The community will also be able to attend demonstrations regularly to hone in on their sustainable gardening skills. The school’s populated community will have access to demonstrations such as composting, including how food waste can be recycled and through such various sustainable gardening techniques, produce usable produce. Students will also have the opportunity to attend planned events to examine the social and environmental conflicts that coincide with these practices. The project invites the community to feel included and engaged with such important information while skill building and making changes. The Stevenson Core Members are the managers of the garden as they will oversee the success of this project. The responsibilities of the core members include gardening, and material up keep, facilitating interns, researching, demonstrating techniques, and hosting community events. Additionally, core members are responsible for having their personal gardening hours, attending garden meetings regularly, and communicating with staff sponsors as well as other organizations on campus. Through these practices, the core staff will achieve it objectives within the next two years.
