We are working on developing relationships with city and nonprofit organizations in order to reduce the waste stream through reuse and recycling. We seek to reduce waste and recycle furniture in a financially sustainable way, in part by creating a way to easily track and measure furniture or equipment from its purchase to its disposal. We will maintain this goal by creating sustainable practices that ease the process of reuse and recycling on the UCSC campus. We will revamp the physical and online Surplus Store to be more streamlined, effective, and appealing to customers. Our current promotion effort is purchasing banners to hang at the base of campus using grant money from the Campus Sustainability Plan. We will further streamline the process by creating new systems so that unnecessary transport is avoided- items will be moved directly from the source to the customer.
